At the stroke of midnight the priest declares "Christos Anesti" which means "Christ Has Arisen". The crowd replies "Alithos Anesti" meaning "Truly He Has Arisen". The bells begin ringing like mad and people shoot off fireworks, cherry bombs and whatever else is available that blows up and makes a loud noise. For about ten minutes it is sheer insanity. Some of my friends stay home just because it makes them nervous. I don't really blame them.
