Much of Chios interior is a high mountain plain that is barren rock. In the last 30 years sections have been planted with pine trees in patchwork squares sponsored by communities or individuals. For those areas of Greece ravaged by summer fires and waiting for the government to plant trees like they promised, Chios offers an alternative strategy. Get together and do it on your own.
