NARCISSUS - During high winter there are parts of Kea
where the sweet smell of the wide daffodils is overwhelming. Here is waht
Anthony Huxley writes about hte plant in his book 'Flowers of Greece and hte
Aegean:"The legend of Narcissus is so well known that it has provided the word
for self-admiration, narcissism. The handsome youth Narcissos fell in love with
his own reflection in a pool with the result that he wasted away (the nymph
Echo who loved him did likewise). One legend has it that Hera punished him for
this conceit and turned him into the narcissus flower; another that when the
nymphs came ot give him funeral rites his body had vanished and a narcissus
