Greek Islands
Houses and Villas in Hydra

Villas in Hydra There are many houses and villas on Hydra available during the summer months and in the off season at a variety of prices. Generally they are not cheap until you factor in the number of people who can live in a house and compare it to what you would pay for several rooms in a hotel. Then renting a house or a villa makes a lot of sense, especially for an extended period of time.

Because Hydra is so close to Athens and there are a number of foreigners living on the island it is an excellent place to base yourself if you want to spend a year in Greece, or if you want to test the waters to see if you like it enough to move here. While many islands are literally dead in the winter, life in Hydra seems to continue but at a slower pace.

Some of the houses available are spectacular while others are simple, comfortable and traditionally decorated. If you are a writer or artist looking for peace and inspiration then Hydra may be the place to be for awhile. Maybe a long while.

Villa on HydraVilla Varvara: Sitting well above the village of Hydra, Varvara Villa is perfect for those seeking a simple, traditional style home with privacy.  Decks that look over the Saronic Gulf are nestled away from everyone but the occasional wild fowl that passes in the field below. The garden area has numerous flowering trees, herbs, and a tall pine that provides shade.  The kitchen is fairly large and has a breakfast table.  There is a double burner stove top but no oven.  Not far is a fruit and vegetable stand – as well as some other essentials.  The dining room is large and will sit 8 guests.  All the rooms are very spacious with lots of windows to allow the breezes to flow.  Sleeps 4; 2 in the master bedroom double, 2 on single divans in the living room. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area and a fireplace. Air conditioning and TV are standard in Mandraki Villa. Right across Villa Mandraki guests can find a beachfront tavern serving local specialties and ouzo. There is also a beach bar offering snacks and refreshing drinks. Orloff Hotel, Hydra, GreeceThe Orloff, one of the historic Hydra mansions of the 18th century, is lovingly restored to an elegant, luxurious 4 star boutique hotel. The architecture is representative of the nobility and wealth of Hydra at the time of the Greek revolution: high walls, no balconies, a secluded garden and courtyards. Each one of the nine rooms and suites is individually designed to the smallest detail. Family antiques and rare objects blend with contemporary comforts in a continuous effort of renovation and with a constant search for authenticity. A delicious home made breakfast is offered in the secluded Orloff garden, under the lemon trees and the sounds of selected classical music. Simmons beds and state of the art room equipment and amenities are provided. Click for more info and booking
