Mavro Volia Beach in Emporio is a volcanic black stone beach simialr to those in Santorini. Its crowded on weekends in the summer but otherwise it is long enough so you can be somewhat alone if you like. Its actually two beaches, the other one is called Foli and they are separated by a small stone mountain. The town of Emporio is just a five minute walk and it has restaurants and the very nice Emporio Bay Hotel. There is a small sheltered beach in town. If you don't have a car this is a good place to stay. If you have a car even better because there are at least a dozen other beautiful beaches nearby.
