One day I went to the island of Angistri. It's only an hour from Athens so we had a swim, had lunch and I took a few pictures. Then I wrote a review of the island. It was one of those reviews you read where the writer does not know much about the place so he adds a little humor to cover up his ignorance, harping on the same topic to fill up space. One day I got an e-mail from Bryan, the owner of the Agistri club, which disected my article bit by bit and pointed out that real travel writers spend a little more time researching before subjecting the world to their wisdom or lack of. (Not exactly his words). By coincidence the Agistri Club was mentioned to me two years before by my friend Nikos who loves the place and urged me to visit and write about it. In fact I would have visited it that day except it was on another part of the island and both my wife and daughter were jet-lagged and complaining and did not want to be anywhere but in the water. So I swallowed my pride and asked him if he would like to be on my pages and be visited by hordes of informed travelers. Why not? There are worse things in life that can happen to a hotel owner. So he is on my site even though I have yet to visit his hotel. But it sounds like a fun place as these testimonials will show you.

Dear Bryan, Yetta, George and all, I am back in Atlanta and hard at work putting the book together, but I'll not soon forget my time at the Agistri Club.  I want to say a personal word of thanks to each of you for doing everything you could to make my stay with you extra special.

I truly felt I was among long-time friends.  My only regret was and is that I did not have much longer to enjoy the beautiful and inspiring surroundings and your fantastic company. I have already been busy spreading the good news about the club to my friends.  I really hope that someone will catch the spirit of my enthusiasm
and join you soon.  As I predicted, my wife was excited by my description and pictures, and she wants to come as well.  So you can depend on a return trip by the Gambers.  Maybe next year!!! If any of you have the occasion to be in the US, particularly in the Atlanta area, please let me know.  I certainly would like to do all I could to return just a small measure of your hospitality. Hello Bryan! Back in Amsterdam now. It¹s very hot here but I must say that I prefer the Agistri-heat with some sea wind. And the ouzo, octopus and lovely company, of course. Tim and I want to send a great big thanks to all you people who took such
good care of us during our stay at the Angistri Club... in particular,
gearing back up to present a wonderful birthday dinner for Tim the day
after the wedding. Our pictures show that we all were enjoying ourselves
immensely and make us wish we were back there where the sun shines every
day and the food is beyond description. My sister is threatening to return

Hello Bryan

We arrived back home safe and sound, the timing on Sunday was perfect and
everything ran smoothly (except for a daft couple on the plane who had tried
to smuggle a hamster to England in the hold and a twenty minute argument
with the authorities ensued while they tried to sort it out!!).  Thanks
again for everything and we hope you were able to enjoy the rest of Sunday's
celebrations.

We would particularly like to thank you, Minh, Hugo, Alan and the rest of
your wonderful team for giving us such a memorable time at the Club, we've
not had such a unique holiday as that one and will definitely recommend it
to good friends of ours who we think will enjoy it as we did.

At last we are home. It took us about 12 hours!! But nothing can take
away my wonderful memories from your paradise and the angels on it.
First I have to get my cat from his hotel and than I'm gonna have a nice
bath, not knowing what hid me. The cat will probably ignore me for a
wile so I can concentrate on a little bit of sleep. I want to thank you,
Hugo and the rest of the crew for taking good care of all of us.

Amazingly no problems in this communication - just briefly to say thank you

A very strange coincidence has occurred!! At our parents diamond wedding
celebration this weekend we were discussing the club and all its assets to
one of our sister in laws, and unbelievably she had worked with you at
Agistri 17 years ago for one summer. She remembered Hugo, Robert, you and
Min and sends you all her best wishes! She had taught ballet in Athens and
her name then was Sally Hyatt, blond etc! Her friend also who worked with
her I think was called Jo. Hope to see you again soon when we can have some
more champagne and caviar! all the best for now

Dear all at Agistri Club,

A few lines to let you know that we are back in Sunny England! We would like
to say a big thank you to everyone for making our stay so memorable.  We are
are wishing we were still there and not back here!

Alexander was looking at the photos of the holiday yesterday and was quite
upset! Yasmin no longer has the freedom to roam as freely as she did on
Agistri, Jacqui is already beginning to look stressed out and my tan is
fading but I'm still refusing to wear anything on my feet but sandals and we
are still eating Greek Salads!

Needles to say, we shall definately be planning a return visit next year god
willing!

By the time we got back in Holland we were already homesick to your place,
it is realy a great place to relax!
In Holland the temperature is 31 C, so that is also very pleasant, but
ofcourse we had to go to work today, but yesterday we were out on our lake
with our boat (very nice).
When we left, Miny was not there, and we realy want to thank her also for
everything, so please will you tell her that she mades very good dishes!

Hello friends from Agistri Club,

We want to thank you for the beautiful time we spent in your hotel, where we felt
at home. Bryan was casually yet assiduously  watching over everyone. The
barman's drinks were great, as was the manner of service--"I stay out of the
kitchen--they're all lunatics in there"--and the music he choose. Hugo's food
was a delight for the palette until the end of time (kia orana!)
and his way of presenting it made you eat
everything he brought at once (as we did the first night, when we consumed the
whole plate of antipasti excluding only tiropitas). When I lose the 3 kg. I
gained in those 4 days I am sure come back. Or if I will ever be pregnant in my
life, surely I come to you to improve my healt and enjoy life.

Bryan, I stole the revue from Adria Airways where you can find the photo of
Platana, your famous New Year champagne restaurant, but I will send it to you so
soon, so it comes around New Year. First time I go to Ljubljana, I will go there
to ask if they miss you.

Here, in Isola the weather is still nice. I am able to swim everyday and can
enjoy the seaside view from my new apartment from every window and balcony.
Presently, I only have a mobile phone, which I will forward next time, because I
suppose you will put this letter on your wall of fame in the lobby. Of course,
if you do that please put mine near Brian Church's letter, as his "Learn Greek
in 25 years" is  my favourite (I'd add "learn it faster- in 25 centuries").

Hi Bryan,

The balance of what we owe you (£140) should be on its way post-haste to
your London bank as arranged.

What a great ten days at the Agistri Club! It was exactly what the doctor
would order, were he allowed to recommend that sort of thing. Lets a bit
of light into the soul -- I had kind of forgotten in our long absence how
Greece does have that effect.

>From the departing ferry we spied Alan jumping on the wall and waving his
shirt like a castaway -- tho in truth it was more us that felt like the
exiles. Please pass our thanks to all of the Club crew, and our fervent
hope to rejoin you all again before too long has lapsed.

Please also give our best to the Hovells who should by now be in
residence and are doubtless even as I write sharing a leisurely glass
with Connor on the terrace. And may I wish you all a Kala Pakti.

I am sure you have been worrying whether we got home safely or not. Well, worry
no more, we did.

For the benefit of all other pining brits still with you, I hope it won't upset
them too much by telling them we have enjoyed lashings of lovely rain since
returning yesterday, which have totally messed up Lyn's "getting the holiday
washing done" plans.

"What washing ?" (I dared say)  "We hardly took anything with us" (I followed
it up with - even more bravely).

"What was in that heavy green case, then ?" (I hear you saying). Remind me to
let you into the secret next year (when no doubt the replacement for that case
will be just as heavy).

Anyway, we had an absolutely marvelous time on Agistri again. The Agistri Club
must be one of the most totally relaxing places on earth. (For the guests - I
know how tough it is for The Management - I hope all Tuesday's "accidents" have
proved not to be too serious - and there have been no more !).

Love and thanks to all staff and other guests (friends) who all helped to make
such a great atmosphere.

Thanks for everything. It was totally memorable. Agistri Island may not be
stunningly beautiful, but its charisma certainly makes up for that. We will

the central heating back on!!

We are safely home, to long grass and a startlingly fat cat; why does anyone
live in London?  Well, home is fine, but London Bridge station - non!

is a magic place.  I'm even now trying to make a chicken dish in imitation
of Min, but it won't be the same.

Dear Bryan,
First of all, I want to tell you and Hugo, Minerva that you and your place
is the best kept secret on the Greek Isles. I can hardly wait to come back
and am wanting to know if you have any little apartments that you would rent
out for next summer. Really Bryan, I can't express in words how wonderful
you all were to Jarrett and I , my sister, Judy and her husband, Tim . You
all took care of us as well as many others and you did such a fantastic job.
The wedding dinner and entire evening was a night to remember always. Tim's
birthday party was another great evening and Judy was concerned that all of
the expense of that was taken care of, please let me know.
Well, if you could stand the presence of this fair Canadian woman, do keep
me posted as to whether it would be feasible to visit next summer, probably
in August and September. I'm getting ready to retire from Nursing. Please

Hello Bryan!

We have booked the flights from Helsinki to Athene. We'll arrive on friday, 27th of
April at 22.35. There are not any direct flight at better time. And then we'll leave
on next friday, 4th of May and our flight is at 23.35.

We hope you have couple rooms for us. Our good friends Marja-Liisa and Roope
are coming with us. It was near at the same time in last springtime when Seppo and I were in your hotel  with Mari and Jussi. We did like our room number 101
and if it is free at our visit's time we'll  appreciate to get it at this time too.

When we'll come on friday by taxi to Pireus time will be around 23.00. What do
you think is it too dangerous if Agistri's taxiboat will pick us up at that time. It is
dark but at last time we saw that taxiboat drived at night too. What is your opinion?
You know the local circumstances and if you prefer us to stay at night in Triton
Hotel we'll agree with you.
As you see we are in hurry to come once again to your beautifull island and enjoy
the atmosphere and good hospitality of your hotel.

what a wonderful, useful website. I spent months trawling over it to plan my first independent holiday. And everything worked like clockwork. And everything was booked on the net.
The buses from the airport and a walk from Syntagma to Hotel Attalos. Next morning the metro down to Piraeus. From your site, I knew how to do it all.
Then I caught a ferry to Agistri, turned left and soon arrived at the Agistri Club. What a splendid relaxing holiday I had there.
Everything that you recommended was excellent - I just can't wait for my next Greek holiday!

For the last two weeks since returning all we have talked about is when shall we go back (that includes all the teenagers!). Thank you for everything you organized. Paradise! We stayed at a place called the Agistri club, fully entertained and looked after by the Welsh wizard Brian and his lovely partner Harriet. Unusual for the Greek islands these people take a very personal approach in looking after you, especially in their restaurant. The main beach is really sandy and shallow, ideal for old people like me and kids.
