The Turkish cemetary within the Kastro holds the graves of many notable Turks during the Ottoman period including Kapudan Pasa Kara Ali, the commander of the Turkish fleet that was destroyed by Kanaris in 1822 after the Turks had slaughtered the inhabitants of Chios.
